About AutoGen

Microsoft's open-source framework for multi-agent conversations, with a Python API and a low-code studio for testing agent teams.

AutoGen is an open-source framework from Microsoft for building applications in which several agents talk to each other to finish a task. One agent might write code, another run it, and a third check the result, with the conversation between them driving the work.

The project has a layered design. A core layer handles messaging between agents, a higher-level AgentChat layer gives ready-made patterns such as group chats, and AutoGen Studio offers a browser interface for assembling and testing agent teams without much code.

Researchers and developers use it to experiment with multi-agent setups. Microsoft has also released a newer Agent Framework that brings together ideas from AutoGen and Semantic Kernel, so check the project's repository for its current status and recommended path before starting a new production build on it.
